Middlesex County Chess Association: a new website

Post by Adam Raoof » Wed Jul 06, 2011 5:36 pm

Please note that Middlesex has a 'new' website;

http://www.middlesexchess.org.uk/

Please let me know if you have any corrections or additions!

We are always looking for new clubs to join our leagues ;-)

I am reliably informed that when Kings Head club was formed, the pub sign did not have an apostrophe. When it later acquired one, the club decided to keep its original name.

New website looks good. One thing missing is the constitution; which can be found here

http://businesschat.reocities.com/Colos ... tution.htm

(archived from the very old geocities site, so might not be the most up to date version). I note in particular that Rule 1 doesn't tally with the map on the new website. From my limited knowledge, the differences reflect the boundary changes made in c 1890. As you specifically mention Imperial College, the differences could lead to eligibility issues in county matches (a new student who isn't yet eligible by club membership, living close to college, for example). It also appears that (without divulging too much personal imformation) these differences affect my eligibility.

It also might be a good idea to acknowledege where you obtained the image files.

Thanks for that! I will do - incidentally the direct link to the site is http://middlesexchess.blogspot.com/ in case, for any reason, the site goes offline... this archived site is very interesting - is there a historical archive of the complete list of prizewinners in each division / individual competition somewhere?

Very good to know!
I bookmarked http://ecforum.org.uk and my browser kept asking me to login every time I get to the forum, I was wondering what was wrong with the "keep me logged in" option :o

It drives me potty too - there is something not quite right with this software and cookies which I really must get around to sorting

I very much doubt it. Your best bet is to try the Metropolitan Archive, but I expect Tony F. has already mentioned it, assuming you didn't already know.

Somewhere I've got buried the reports on the centenary tournament. I've also got a copy of the Wade obituary which emphasises his role within the county. Let me know if you want them.

It works now since I have www. in my bookmark.
There's some good info and few hints here (unless your server does something unusual):

Yes thanks I knew the fix but was hoping to try a nicer solution without actually changing the cookie name and logging everyone out

I might sort it on the next new software release which should be happening soon!

On the map provided, what does the central area count as?

I'm assuming that, clockwise from the area east of 2 (Enfield), the segregated areas represent Essex, Kent and Surrey. I moved to Camden in September 2009 and enquired about playing for Middlesex because (a) I assumed that I'd moved to within its boundaries and (b) the home venue was literally across the street from me. However, the map indicates I was wrong with my assumption in (a).

Despite having no direct affiliation whatsoever, would I have been able to play for any of the other 3 counties who border the central area?

I can't comment on the validity of the map, but Camden Town is in Middlesex; type "Camden Town" into this: http://gazetteer.co.uk/

No, the map is totally wrong! Give me a more accurate map, and then I will replace it. However our constitution also seems to be wrong (have a read).
