Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
Perhaps Pert should have played a4 earlier, b5! was a good move. Was there anything better than Rf7?
Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
I think Pert still winning ...rd5 rc8, kf3-e4 looks to be in time
edit kf3 was played first, obviously

Pert's Rf8 was another move that wasn't on my radar. The win for White is certainly trickier than I gave it credit for!

What about Black's h-pawn. Will pushing that make any difference?Paul Cooksey wrote:I think Pert still winning ...rd5 rc8, kf3-e4 looks to be in time

I don't think it is fast enough. black king on a bad square. Pert will be doubly keen to win, given he has an endgame DVD on the marketChristopher Kreuzer wrote:What about Black's h-pawn. Pert hasn't played any of the top 3 yet, and certainly good enough to at least draw with any of them. His remaining games could be decisive.

The feed has just been corrected. With the amended moves, ....Bxb5 was never actually on.John Cox wrote:Aaron obviously didn't think so!

So Pert - Hunt ...Kg5, Ke4 h4, Rxc3 Kg4 looks consequent, what's going on then? White's surely better but not a formality.

And a draw in Hebden-Summerscale as expected.

Actually, until today he hadn't played anybody above 2335. That's not counting the draw on Saturday which was, for understandable reasons, a non-event.Paul Cooksey wrote: Pert hasn't played any of the top 3 yet ....

Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
Kg5 did look more natural than kg6, rf6+ picking up e6 now looks a major problem. Although a4 and picking up the a pawn, again looked like it set up a position where white could even give up the rook for the passed h-pawnJames Coleman wrote:So Pert - Hunt ...Kg5, Ke4 h4, Rxc3 Kg4 looks consequent, what's going on then? Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
Well counterplay with the h-pawn was prob a better chance than this but perhaps Pert was simply winning after all. Completely overlooked the obvious Rf8
Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
I wouldn't say that was obvious, looked like a ! to meAdam Ashton wrote:Well counterplay with the h-pawn was prob a better chance than this but perhaps Pert was simply winning after all. Completely overlooked the obvious Rf8
