I'm starting to believe Hawkins might have to work hard for the draw v Short

If Jones finds a pretty finish he is a contender for best game prize

Which he did!Paul Cooksey wrote:If Jones finds a pretty finish he is a contender for best game prize
Nice to be in a tournament with GMs, less nice when they prepare something specifically for you and attack like that!

There's a weird thing going on with the live games. I had it on Short - Hawkins and every so often it changes to Adams - Howell :/.

Howell's blundered. At least thats what Fritz is telling me.
Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
Rybka giving Hawkins v Short =+. I'm not convinced it really understands the position, since it is willing to swap rooks. But Short must have reasonable winning chances, with e3 weak and a chance to create a q-side passed pawn

It looks like Howell has blundered if I'm not mistaken
Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
hmm, seems so. ng5 allows f5 ef6 ng5 with the skewer on the rook. only works after ng5 allowing black to clear the efilebenedgell wrote:Howell's blundered. At least thats what Fritz is telling me.
Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
Adams found f5 of course. Howell didn't give away the whole rook, but clearly losing now

Yes, I also think it was just a blunder.James Coleman wrote:It looks like Howell has blundered if I'm not mistaken
At first I wasn't sure if it was just a blunder or if Howell had just ran out of options and his position just buckled.
Now it seems he is just an exchange down, and his position is still dire.

I guess is an example of overreaching. Pawn up and trying to press, easy to try for more than the position allows.Andrew Bak wrote:At first I wasn't sure if it was just a blunder or if Howell had just ran out of options and his position just buckled.

Where's Karsten Mueller when you need him?!benedgell wrote:Is Jovanka winning?
It does look close to winning for her, Stephen's a-pawn isn't going anywhere fast.

I was not following closely, but I was surprised she allowed the exchange of queens. If pushed, I would say Black can hold that rook ending, but someone better than I am can give a more authoritative judgement.benedgell wrote:Is Jovanka winning?
