England recovered to 221 all out, due mostly to a rapid 64 from Broad.

It is an outside passed pawn - I suspect Black may have to play very accurately/

To me it looks like White's the one who has to play carefully.John Moore wrote:It is an outside passed pawn - I suspect Black may have to play very accurately/

Not really, White can't get zugged, because he has Kc4-b4-c4-b4. Black can never let White play Kb5, so his king has to stay put. That's my dumbass way of looking at it. Usual disclaimer: I need three extra pawns to draw any pawn endgame.Jon D'Souza-Eva wrote:To me it looks like White's the one who has to play carefully.John Moore wrote:It is an outside passed pawn - I suspect Black may have to play very accurately/

What if Black gets a pawn to f4 and so threatens e4 if White's king plays to b4?Paul McKeown wrote:Not really, White can't get zugged, because he has Kc4-b4-c4-b4. What is happening with Gordon - Hunt. Why not 24.... Nxe4 now we have 26. qxe7 rxe7 27. rxd7 rxd7 28. nxe4 and surely white stands better

Mmm... that does seem to be something of a problem. Don't really understand Black's last few moves, I have to say.Matthew Turner wrote:What is happening with Gordon - Hunt. Why not 24.... Nxe4 now we have 26. qxe7 rxe7 27. rxd7 rxd7 28. nxe4 and surely white stands better
EDIT: Back to Adams... 40. f4 e4 played. I must admit, I don't see the idea from Mickey.

Well, Adams has radically prevented that possibility, but even g3-g4 would have been sufficient, I would have thought. Draw.

John, now that f5 has been played, Adams plays Kc4, then he can always triangulate via c3, d4 and c4, if Black manouevres his king. No way through for Black.
