Peter Lalic - road to....?

Post by Gareth Harley-Yeo » Fri Aug 05, 2011 12:23 pm

I thought I'd start a thread to say how impressed I am with the rise of Peter Lalic.

For those of you who aren't following him, his stats for the British are here.

With some a strong chess environment at home I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he gets a title like his parents!

With a mum and Dad playing 200+ kind of helps! Hawkins improvement grading wise is interesting. He seemed over a 7 yr period get to about 179 slowly but surely. Then major grading rises over the last few to now be 243 (only 243 :? )

Let's not put too much pressure on him but he had a great tournament.

It just seems a shame that he got such a low first fide rating, when he is clearly much stronger then that now - perhaps there should be some sort of new regulation that no fide rating under 2000 can be achieved by an under 18 year old. That would have meant that peters first grade would have been 2300ish instead of where he is now, having to claw and scrape his way through the 2000s, 2100s and 2200s before he ever gets there.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Well, it's not so bad, he's going to be well over 2000 with his performance. It's just a pity that (apparently), his k is down to 15 and not 30!

But he will shoot up as we know he is clearly better than that.

If he does not lose interest in chess he will undoubtly be a IM at the very least, I also think Peter would be a great coach. There is absolutely NO doubt he has the ability and the passion for the game. His father said he is actually playing better chess than himself.
