Charlie Storey for new ECF President

Post by Charlie Storey » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:05 pm

Due to the offering of CJ's resignation for his response to Lara's request to change his dress code to a more professional approach, that did not advertise a non sanctioned ECF Charity I have decided to run for ECF President.

I accept it will meet with some resistance from areas of ECF and British Chess but let me highlight a few key factors.

1. £750k that was left to develop junior chess sits locked in Trustees accounts who won't utilise it.
2. The ECF is on course for Bankruptcy unless there are some radical changes.
3. I will unlock this money and build on my university education which examined chess business and Internet interaction.
4. Junior Squad Selection more transparent.
5. Official ECF Chess Shop and monies pumped back in to Chess Players. -not Online entrepreneurs.
6. Online Chess Clubs directly attached to ECF not Online entrepreneurs.
7. Much emulation of the USCF Model.
8. New Bandana rating System for Juniors.
9. No Juniors allowed to participate in ECF Adult events until 16.
10. 1 Professional in every County / Coaching / Developing / Promoting / Problem Solving.
11. Clear out of any ECF director who is un happy with my shake up.
12. Chess on Sky BBC and a Gambling facility for none chess players to tweek their interest.
13. Heavy promotion of speed chess and rapid-play chess.
14. I am a Fide Master who has taught Chess to thousands of children and won over 70 Opens in the U.K.
15. I will make ECF a very successful Business Model.

In short - I have the courage to shake things up but 'Storey needs your support' to change things once and for all and remove all legacy problems that the ECF has acquired.

Time for Change - Time for Storey. :)

If it were a choice between this and none of the above, I'd vote for none of the above. Some of these policies (notably 9 and 11) are quite possibly truly disastrous. One is utterly irrelevant (14) and many are totally impractical (5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12). The rest are either the meaningless nothing statement that no-one disagrees with anyway (such as 15) or so poorly explained that it is impossible to understand how they could possibly work.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

I'm confused by "Official ECF Chess Shop". This sounds like Chess Centre Limited all over again. Either that, or you mean an online shop. I agree, and think that's a good idea. Unfortunately, somebody already thought of it.

Could you expand on this point?

What are the differences and similarities, and what are the pros and cons of this proposal?

So far Charlie it seems everyone is against you becoming elected.

But who knows you might still have a chance of that important role.

To protect the grading of those who don't like playing underrated players.

Of course.

I am happy to step aside if you find a better candidate that will shake things up.
Unfortunately it is more likely a Yes man will be installed that will not change things for the better and the ECF will fail to be a successful business model and as a result Children's Chess will be impacted.

Anyway - That's all I have to say if there is some powerful support I will do the role - If not I'l leave it to its death.

Had a look at your Ebay page.

If you've done all that by yourself that's really impressive.

Are your books any good?

Any main points for juniors to get better at chess?

1. I did inform the arbiters.
2. Accomodation was poor and room was too noisy.
3. You think there is a problem from withdrawing from a tournament?
