Using the ChessBase GUI get the position you require on the screen.

Using Tools, Design etc decide how you wish the board to appear

Using File, Save Position... then save the diagram in either .jpg or .bmp format.

Open the MS Word document and choose Insert, Picture and away you go!

Or, again using ChessBase, just copy the position and paste it into Word. Assuming you haven't removed the ChessBase fonts, you'll get a standard diagram that you can resize according to your needs and without worrying about the loss of quality that can come with resizing graphic images. The other major benefit is that your files will be much smaller.

Of course, if you want the arrows and highlighted squares that are possible in ChessBase you have to go down the bitmap route outlined by John.

You might need to be careful with that approach if you move the file to a computer that doesn't have the ChessBase fonts installed. So if you were doing a club mag or similar, converting the finished product to pdf might make sense.

Good point - it's what I always do, but that may not be obvious to everybody.
