What a good result that was. Just shows what the Brits can do when they pull together as a unit on the world stage.
Coming in close behind the giant nations of China, USA, and Russia certainly gives us something to cheer about, and food for thought in other spheres perhaps.
I see they are muting the idea of a `British` football team for the next Olympics....if they can overcome politics & prejiduces, petty bickering, self interest, etc. Some wonder if there is any English football any more....certainly our new Italian manager has his work cut out. I felt a certain sympathy with Mr Mc Claran, after the knee jurk reaction of media and the english management somewhat hastily used him as a scape goat for our wider failings.
Pooling our limited resources certainly seems to have merits.......but thats not to say there`s not a place for Nationals to show off there capabilities.....we need to operate effectively on all the world, national, and local stages. Providing suitable platforms for our teams to perform is another part of the equation.
Wonder if the chess world could be likewise......and rise above the the crowd on the world stage....and give our chess scene the boost it so desires.
