I don't know, but Jackson looks alright now. Two bishops might be a handful later, but he doesn't look like he's going to get a coshing.

Paul - I agree. Coshing is some kind of friendly Irish word, is it.
By the way, my wife said why didn't Hawkins play Rf8 if that was a problem

Rf8 looks a bit retrograde, but your missus might be right! Qe3 would then allow Bxf3, etc. You should have her on board 1 for Writtle.

I like Hawkins to convert after Qxd6. Those pawns have a name, they are in the Dvoerkshy endgame manual as what you want in opposite coloured bishop endings, especially with a rook on.

Mind you, John. What was the problem with 23... Bxf3 24. Qe8+ Rxe8 25. Rxe8 Qf8 26. Rxf8+ Kxf8 27. gxf3? Surely White's pawns are rightly badgered up, anyway?

Another team mate of mine William Foo(Reading) looks like he is going to get ground up by Mr Arkell, Qb6 just played, not sure if keith will Qa5 straight away, but e3 later and the a6 c6 weakness combined with Bishop pair makes it 1-0 for someone like Keith.

I reckon you'd hold that against me. Paul

Surely for the Gentleman John Moore it would be a quick draw and drinking in the bar?

Ben, the last two times I offered, it was, "I better go home before the snow" and "I've got stuff to do at home". Reckon John's going soft!
Re: British Championships 2012 - Games
I don't really play the Marshall, except in blitz. But since I also remembered Gustafsson saying 11...Ne5 was not really playable on his brilliant dvd, I thought I do John a favour with his opening preparation and look it up.John Moore wrote:It's interesting because I thought the modern preference was for 11..Nd4 rather than the exchange of knights. This line is supposed to be very solid for White - far less problems in developing his queen-side pieces than in the Marshall proper. I wonder, though, whether 15 Nf3 is the most accurate. Maybe a4 first, preserving options for the knight. Having said that, it's a damn sight easier sitting here suggesting plans than it is sitting opposite Mr Hawkins and having to play them
Marshall theory moves fast, and it looks like things have changed recently Some serious players, Kamsky, Tomashevsky, Muzychuck have been making the 12...qd6 variation Hawkins played look very dangerous. I wonder how relevant this game is:
We might be seeing a line Hawkins looked at in preparation for Hebden, or perhaps even something they've worked on together.
(edited an error in the variation)

Too much, all at once! This is unpleasant for White, but surely not that bad.

Hi Paul C - thx for the preparation but I did suggest 15 a4 - not to commit the knight just yet
