Isn't she just lost? (Just resigned) The bishop move from g4 to e2 to b5 was lethal, and something I managed to completely miss! I'm wondering if 53...Bc7 was the fatal blunder? What if Black had played 53...g5, 54...g6 and shuttled her queen between f6 and e7?

And Jones and Conquest have drawn. That leaves Gordon with a half point lead going into the final round! Is it possible to predict who he (Gordon) will play depending on the Turner-Howell result? And eight wins for Gordon so far. Would nine wins be some sort of record if he can win tomorrow? Gordon will play Conquest, surely? And Gordon with Black and Conquest with White.

Gordon has done really well to win so many games - it reminds me of Ivanchuk's and Short's extraordinary performances in Gibraltar 2011.

Turner-Howell may go on for some time...

The Turner-Howell result doesn't matter he has played both of them, he is going to play Hawkins whatever

Well, when I went out to weed the garden Howell was shuffling his king between g8 and h7. Now he seems to have pulled up most of Matthew Turner's position.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I think Howell has just blundered a repetition with 76...Qd3, let's see if Turner spots it.

EDIT: My bad, Howell played Kh7-g7 in between, so no repetition was missed.

Round 10 Report

I thought Turner would've just played 86.Qxd1 if he wanted to continue, but what do I know?

Interestingly enough in the Open section we could end up with three unbeaten players, and a player who is not unbeaten winning the championship outright. If that does happen I wonder if it will be a first time occurrence.

Gawain Jones is out of the 'death zone' now - I think he has run out of masters to be fielded against so should have a good chance of 2/2 in the final games. Stephen Gordon will have a bit of a harder time of it, what with playing less titles opponents, but he is playing good chess so has every chance to go through as the surprise package of the championships - lets hope this performance gives him the boost to his confidence to start reaching towards the 2600 mark, it would be great to see another Englishman up in those rating heights.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Joey - tomorrow is the final round.

Stephen plays white against Jonathan Hawkins, while Gawain has Black against Dave Ledger.

I've predicted Stephen to draw and Gawain to win, which would lead to a playoff on Saturday.

I think Stephen would not want another game against Gawain, and hawkins has been a bit vulnerable as black this tournament, I wouldnt be at all surprised if he goes for broke and tries to get the win then and there.

Norm Situation
James Holland has achieved an 11 round International Master (IM) norm. A win today will give him a 12 round norm.*
Marcus Osborne requires a draw today to obtain an 11 round IM norm.

* He will exceed the required score by 1 point if he wins and so can be credited with a 12 round norm from an 11 round tournament.
(Predicting Chris's question)
