Oh dear, I have just been writing about the Gordon-Harvey line...

'I did not think that this held any independent value over 9 Qc2 but there is one major difference. White now has the possibility to play Qd5+ in some variations which puts Black in all sorts of problems, for example,
9â€¦Nxc3
I will discuss Blackâ€™s other interesting option 9â€¦Nc6 a bit later on in this chapter.
10 bxc3!
White is now ready to play the e4 advance. Blackâ€™s standard way of meeting this.
10â€¦Nc6
Runs into 11 e4!'

For example...

When Black has a pretty horrible decision to make, he can either try â€¦e5 or capture on e4. Both moves are better for White, for example,
a) 11â€¦e5
This move would be fine if White still had the queen placed on c2 but in this position White can win a pawn by playingâ€¦
12 dxe5 dxe5 13 Qd5+!

Gordon actually showed me this line 5 years ago or so, hence why I gave up 7...a5 in favour of 7...Ne4. Should have kept up to date on www.gingergm.com

Lawks. I won a game (as White) in the London League a few months ago when I played up to 12 dxe5 pretty quickly and Black chose not to recapture.

Surprised to see it crop up in the British Championship at all, let alone round 6, board 3.

Nice to see Mike Surtees get all his pawns moved by move 12 - according to his rules, that's almost winning. Also, I am so glad that I am not Robert Shaw in that position against Jack.

I am aware of this and I think the connection between my system and the clock has come loose. If I can fix it before the game ends I will.

Is there a site where you can go and play over games from previous rounds? I could download the pgns, but before I do that, I wanted to check I'm not missing something on the official site. I know some events and sites do provide online playback facilities so that casual browsers can play through games from previous rounds without having to download a pgn for each round.

Not that I know of, the pgns from round 2 onwards didn't have any moves when I tried them this morning but I believe they are a work in progress.
