Boris Spassky

Post by Christopher Kreuzer » Thu Aug 23, 2012 2:47 pm

Has anyone here been following the ongoing Boris Spassky story?

He had a severe stroke almost 2 years ago now, and was (seemingly) recovering in France (where he lives) but now the following stories have appeared in Chessbase:

http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=8417

"Boris Spassky, fearing death, 'flees' to Russia"

http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=8429

"Spassky's sister: help save my baby brother!"

It's all rather strange (and worrying for those close to Spassky). It's difficult to know what is going on.
Hopefully it will be resolved soon and be clearer what has been happening.

Latest update here, though things aren't exactly crystal clear: http://www.whychess.org/en/node/2864

(incidentally, the following was also published a couple of days before ChessBase published something similar... http://www.whychess.org/en/node/2820 - it's worth bearing in mind the first two interviews aren't 100% reliable)
