LONDON BUSES!

Post by David Gilbert » Fri Oct 12, 2012 1:09 pm

You wait around for what seems ages, and then they come along three at once!

This weekend the South is blessed with three chess congresses in Bournemouth, Bury St Edmunds and Wycombe. It means that more that 350 people will be sitting down at the chess board this weekend - I can think of worse things. A few minutes ago Wycombe (138) held a narrow lead over Bury (131), with Bournemouth (89) in third.

We booked our guest house near Bury St Edmunds ages ago - it’s among the top two guest houses I stay at anywhere in the UK - so that was always going to be my choice. What will you be doing this weekend?

Really? What is worse than an ECF Council meeting?

I'll be running a junior chess tournament with at least 168 players.

Another ECF Council meeting that you have to attend watching your delegate not consulting the bodies he represents merely casting his votes based on his personal opinions.

One Person, Many Votes (OPMV).

I'll be running Golders Green Rapidplay - it's not too late to enter! http://www.goldersgreenchess.blogspot.com but will be keeping in touch with the Board Meeting and AGM by chat if the wifi at the church holds up...

At the Hastings & St. Leonards Chess Club Open Day, part of 'Hastings Week' (Harold v William was 14 Oct)

Pity - I quite enjoyed Bury and at only one night away it was affordable.

Surely an ECF Director should arrange things so as to be at the ECF AGM?

In the past it was possible, but now we regularly get over 100 players with a large junior entry and I really need to be there 'just in case'. When the AGM is in Euston I can get to Golders Green, set up, start the event, leave it in very capable hands and be back to clear up.

Why didn't you schedule the event for a different day to avoid a clash?

Because I always have Golders Green on this weekend, and the date was fixed well before the AGM date was fixed!
