Radomir Antic has died, and English people who remember him are most likely to remember him for this, though in Spain he's better remembered as the manager of Atlético's double-winning side in 1996. What's this got to do with chess and media? Well I didn't know until today that Leontxo García had written a book about him.

Sid Lowe writes of Antic that he "played chess".

Kenneth Rogoff (2M USA 2505 born 1953. I don't remember when he was last active) - one of Harvard's few onservative professors wrote last week of an 'economic catastrophe - likely to rival or exceed any recession in the last 150 years', with lingering effects, potentially leading to a 'global depression'. The pandemiv was akin to an 'alien invasion'.

Ken has not played seriously since 1980, although he has evidently not forgotten how to play, as he showed in a blitz game against Magnus Carlsen in 2012. I do not know in what sense he is considered to be "conservative".

The work in question is “This time is different” which is often quoted as a justification for ‘austerity’ measures. An incorrect piece of data was used for New Zealand (simply inputting a 9 rather than a 4 from memory). Whether than invalidates the conclusions and narrative is open to question. Most of the things said about the work are probably a bit unfair (including that it justifies austerity measures). It isn’t the easiest read

I clicked on the email ad for VIRGIN MEDIA EDIT. It was an alert about what can be done using their system.
The very first material shows a child playing chess with a remote opponent using cameras to display the position. The board is round the right way and the child is winning.
