From the BBC website about Shreyas Royal and a young American player:

I haven't found any reference to this on the forum but please feel free to delete this post if it's already here

Any further information would be interesting. Referring to the Ruy Lopez suggests some research was done. I know nothing about the programme.

It is a comedy from the 70's? Before the program there was the usual warning about some 'outdated attitudes'. There was a chat about men having bigger brain and there not being any females Mathematicians or Physicists and chess was proffered as the supreme mental exercise. Then the 'man about the house' gets well and truly smashed at chess by his female flatmate. The language used certainly demonstrated a good working knowledge of the game from the writers.

1973 - 1976, Are we talking about episode entitled "We shall not be moved" so I don't have to watch multiple episodes? Not because I think it was rubbish! I think it was a reasonable programme at the time, with quite a good cast.

I've just seen an ad for Movistar security systems which featured a game of chess, played outside with a clock.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Justin. I can see why they would have included a chess clock for a security systems company.
Could they be worth approaching regarding chess sponsorship?

For some reason I knew their name very well, and I have remembered that they sponsor a top cycling team.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

A notably underperforming one if I recall (not that this is relevant to anything).

Yeah. There was talk as to whether Chris Froome might join them.
Being a fan of Motorcycle Racing, I believe they are involved in Moto GP. I think they sponsor one of the Yamaha teams.
Movistar also sponsor Real Madrid Women's Football Team along with basketball in Spain.

I happened to catch this episode a while back. Chrissie does look at first as though she's doing all right, but actually ends up being checkmated. (Contrast, though, with the movie, where Robin gets creamed at strip poker.)
"The chess-board is the world ..... the player on the other side is hidden from us ..... he never overlooks a mistake, or makes the smallest allowance for ignorance."
(He doesn't let you resign and start again, either.)

Just looking at "Cracking the Cryptic"'s broadcast last night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkeJmDcLjAU and the puzzle is linked to

http://abstractstrategygames.blogspot.c ... chess.html

I note that the "fairy chess" game mentioned includes a "buffoon", surprisingly on the board, not one side of it, or writing about it.

I also assume that the term "fairy chess" is not the same as problemists might think.
