Re: Media comments on chess
Hi Justin,
Suppose if you wash hands before the game it should be OK.
Perhaps sanitise the pieces before every game as well else the term 'poison pawn' could take on a whole new meaning.
Have started avoided cramped positions, Tarrasch said they carry the germ of defeat.

Hi Justin,
Just a wee piece of mild relief with a chess theme - It's not even topical COVID-19 is a virus, not a germ.

A good article by Ray Keene. I was unfamiliar with two of the anecdotes. It is now 2am.

Re: Media comments on chess
March Chess Magazine includes an article by Geoff Chandler about an entertaining game (probably between 2 average club players) ending with 1 player giving up his queen for stalemate. Geoff had picked up the scorebook in a charity shop.
Looking closely at the team Black was playing for I spotted something. Maybe that was Geoff's subconscious selecting the game.

Re: Media comments on chess
Private Eye 1519 has a few entries.
A cartoon entitled "NH Chess" depicting some smiling pawns confronting some spiky looking pawns. Heads a rather good article by Dr Phil Hammond on the current problem.
In Dumb Britain, on "The Chase", "At which board games, was Bobby Fischer a grandmaster?" Answer given - "Monopoly". In fairness, you have to answer really quickly, and "questions are only difficult if you don't know the answer" (William G Stewart)
And an item on Ray Keene and Tony Buzan. The material in it looks familiar. Interesting that there was a Memory event in Wuhan in December. This is an ideal (for some) opportunity to unfairly blame Ray Keene for the outbreak.

I had no idea Greystoke never paid his two hundred grand.

I have no reason to dispute the Eye's claim to that effect, but I would like to see corroboration. After all, you (Justin) have warned of the danger of relying on a single source.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 9:43 amI had no idea Greystoke never paid his two hundred grand.

Maybe Greystoke will have a letter in the next issue or something.

I'm not sure whether this is possible to track, as the FCA (FSA as was) wouldn't like to publicise not receiving the moneyJustinHorton wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 9:43 amI had no idea Greystoke never paid his two hundred grand.
Looking at the original decision notice there is
We recognise that there is a possibility that imposition of financial penalties of the range fixed by the RDC may result in the insolvency of the Applicants and in Atlantic Law going out of business. The decision as to payment of these and other debts is it seems dependent on whether Mr Greystoke’s wife chooses to lend more money.
