What's this got to do with chess and media? Well I didn't know until today that Leontxo García had written a book about him.

Well yes

Today's cartoon in El Diario has a chess theme

Today's Sunday TimesNiall Frguson
Kenneth Rogoff (2M USA 2505 born 1953. I don't remember when he was last active) - one of Harvard's few onservative professors wrote last week of an 'economic catastrophe - likely to rival or exceed any recession in the last 150 years', with lingering effects, potentially leading to a 'global depression'. The pandemiv was akin to an 'alien invasion'.
This is just quoting, not everybody holds the same views.

Ken has not played seriously since 1980, although he has evidently not forgotten how to play, as he showed in a blitz game against Magnus Carlsen in 2012. I do not know in what sense he is considered to be "conservative".Stewart Reuben wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 11:09 pmToday's Sunday TimesNiall Frguson

This is the article on which the ST piece is presumably based.

Well, generally speaking "chief economists" at the IMF are not known for radical leftism.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 10:08 amKen has not played seriously since 1980, although he has evidently not forgotten how to play, as he showed in a blitz game against Magnus Carlsen in 2012. In the specific case of Ken Rogoff, who I don't particularly think of as a conservative, he badly damaged his reputation with a paper published not long after the financial crash the conclusions of which rested on incorrect data. (This doesn't often come up when he's mentioned in chess literature.)

More depiction of chess in El Diario. (I guess the idea is to suggest that kids are playing chess during lockdown, which of course some are, but that's a weird photo when you look at it.)

The work in question is “This time is different” which is often quoted as a justification for ‘austerity’ measures. An incorrect piece of data was used for New Zealand (simply inputting a 9 rather than a 4 from memory). Whether than invalidates the conclusions and narrative is open to question. Most of the things said about the work are probably a bit unfair (including that it justifies austerity measures). It isn’t the easiest readMatt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 6:03 pmYes, I do recall that.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 5:10 pmIn the specific case of Ken Rogoff, who I don't particularly think of as a conservative, he badly damaged his reputation with a paper published not long after the financial crash the conclusions of which rested on incorrect data. Re: Media comments on chess
They have a live game of Lock Down Chess on the Jeremy Vine show. (ch. 5)
They are using a new kind of T.V. notation. 'Queen up two and behind the pawn' and calling a Rook a castle.
They are currently here, more moves have been made and some more will appear tomorrow.
Jeremy Vine is White.

I clicked on the email ad for VIRGIN MEDIA EDIT. It was an alert about what can be done using their system.
The very first material shows a child playing chess with a remote opponent using cameras to display the position. The board is round the right way and the child is winning.

Saw a TV ad for SAN MIGUEL BEER Tuesday evening.
There was a very brief glimpe of a chess board and set.

GM JAMES PLASKETT is quoted fairly extensively in an article in today's Daily Telegraph on Page 22. The title is 'THE COUGHING MAJOR: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED'. 0f course it is about 'Who want to be a millionaire'.
