It doesn't mention chess at all. But if they are willing to have videogames in Commonwealth Games, then why not chess, Magic the Gathering, or sudoku ...?
One of the eSports selected for the Commonwealth Games was eFootball. I'd be interested to know whether the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation also thinks Subbuteo would be suitable for the Commonwealth Games. If not, what makes one game based on football suitable and the other not?

Good point - I recall they also had cricket and rugby variants.

What makes FIFA more suitable then subbuteo ? Quite simply the fact it is a multi billion dollar franchise which will pour money into the events... Never mind that eSports are tarred hugely by cheating and corruption, like "real" sports if you throw enough money at sponsorship you can sweep everything under the rug.

Makes me kind of glad chess is so amateur - at least the worst of what goes on in the chess world is confined to places that don't hugely affect normal everyday players.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

so you think someone that has beaten nigel short 11-1 hasnt been a victim of rampant corruption in all his games being mistake free from opponents in minor events?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62554178 notice the van in the photo
an earlier photo showed the whole of the removal vans side with a chessboard and a bishop on it saying bishops move but it was obviously classed as showing too much chess subversion for the beeb to keep it and the image was cut.

"Test cricket is more than the 'big hitting, see ball hit ball mentality'. It is a chess game and strategy that enables you to have the upper game."
