>There must surely have been some chess references applied to the recent royal family shenanigans?<
I'll make up my own.
Meghan and Harry, in moving from England to California, have taken the idea of queenside castling to extremes.

"There must surely have been some chess references applied to the recent royal family shenanigans?."
Some Meghan and Harry chess jokes. (or not, feel free to groan.)
Apparently the children are not going to have any titles so...
Meghan and Harry are playing consultation chess v William and Kate.
If Meghan and Harry promote a pawn they cannot make it a Queen.
---
Meghan and Harry are just about to play a game of chess.
'"Checkmate" says Meghan and knocks over Harry's King and Queen.
---
Meghan and Harry are playing chess on a 6 x 6 board. No Kings or Queens.
(how does one win?....the player who gets the most cheques.)
etc...etc...etc...
---
Of course the biggest non-joke will come from the tabloids as sooner or later one of
them is bound mention Meghan and Harry v the Royal Family are currently in stalemate.
(see how neatly I swung this post back to 'media comments on chess'.)

I think the first Meghan and Harry non-joke/joke will come from Piers.

Has anyone watched Computer Chess? Someone at work has recommended it.
It's available on Mubi, for which you can get a 7 days free trial, and, according to the film's website, various other places if you already have a subscription.

Ah yes, I've seen bits of that show. It distinguishes between wrong answers and impossible answers (the latter of which can't possibly be right because they don't meet a criterion specified in the question).

It's available on BBC iPlayer, with the question starting at about 9:30 minutes into the programme.Stewart Reuben wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 5:48 pmWednesday afternoon BBC1. A quiz show called 'IMPOSSIBLE' I just happened o it looking for a different programme.

The answers were:
- En passant
- Huff
- Stalemate
- Trump
- Box out
- En prise
- Bear Off
- En garde
- Fork
The next question was "Which term used in the game of chess refers to one piece attacking two or more opposing pieces at the same time?" The contestant didn't know, but guessed fork on the basis that roads fork into two.

[*]I don't normally watch 'Doctors', the BBC1 lunchtime soap, but yesterday I saw a doctor, who was clearly an unpleasant character, playing online chess in his office. His running commentary included much gloating and self-satisfaction. He got his just deserts, though, by getting mated. I could see just enough of his screen to see the pattern white bishop on g5 and rook on d8 mating black king on e8. It was a pity that the message seemed to be that nasty people play chess.
At least someone on the production side had fun making the chess credible.
