I take it they don't have "none of the above" in US elections.

Re: Media comments on chess
It would help if people quoted from the link!
"Democrat Phil Ehr to Announce Candidacy for Congress"
"All are invited to join Democrat Phil Ehr in downtown Pensacola as he announces his candidacy for Florida's First Congressional District. Ehr will run in 2018..."
That took place on Monday (17 July 2017). Wonder how it went?
For those with short memories, Phil Ehr was CEO of the ECF recently. Sadly, I can't find a site that documents the exact years. Surely someone out there is carefully documenting the history of the officers of the federation? (Who held which roles in which years?)
http://www.englishchess.org.uk/about/ecf-officials/
Phil Ehr is still listed there as "Past Chief Executive Serving on Council".

The minutes of the AGMs at the ECF's site are the source material.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: Sadly, I can't find a site that documents the exact years.
Elected 2013

Unelected 2015

The englishchess website is the obvious place alongside the Yearbook to maintain a history of Directors (and Officers).

Meet Phil
Recently, Phil fought financial corruption in an international sports federation linked to the Kremlin and the oil trade between the Syrian regime and ISIS

Other than endorsing the ECF's support for Kasparov, what fighting did he do?Fought corruption in the World Chess Federation, whose Russian leader was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department for materially supporting the Government of Syria and association with the Assad regime’s oil trade with the terrorist group, ISIS.
Citation?Co-founded a school chess club and helped coach school teams who won nine English national championships in 12 years.
Hopefully not at ECF meetings, or in the UK in general.Other

I can't be the only person who has attended chess meetings and wished he had a gun with him?

Normally I take the view that use of "one" is archaic and only the Prince of Wales should use it but here it would disambiguate between you attending chess meetings with Phil Ehr where you wished he would shoot somebody and you attending chess meetings where you wanted to shoot somebody yourself.Kevin Thurlow wrote:"Other

People who know you well no doubt know which one of these two terrible sounding alternatives you meant but the rest of us are left wondering.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Yes - sorry about that, I have no wish for Phil Ehr to shoot somebody at a meeting.
I don't wish too either, but some meetings are very frustrating.

Hopefully, the good citizens of Florida's First Congressional District will learn from our mistake.

Oxford United manager lists chess as his second favourite sport.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

The first bit is certainly true. Don’t have personal knowledge of the second bit - but if wobbly memory serves, didn’t PE have a family connection to a school that did well in chess competitions? Probably that’s it.
