The ecfgrading record of the Cavendish Wright links to a FIDE record which has a year of birth that cannot be correct for the Danny Wright who was a top player in the 1960s.Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 2:04 pmIf chessgames.com are to believed there have been two Daniel/Danny Wrights active in British chess at a fairly high level?

I'm sure that many years of birth on the FIDE list are wrong, since information provided by federations is not confirmed and sometimes, particularly in years gone by, I expect they just guessed. No doubt this one will now be checked by the rating officer.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 3:01 pmThe ecfgrading record of the Cavendish Wright links to a FIDE record which has a year of birth that cannot be correct for the Danny Wright who was a top player in the 1960s.

chessgames.com was inplying that there were two Danny Wrights, both strong enough to make the FIDE list, but who didn't overlap in time when playing chess outside the London League.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 3:08 pmNo doubt this one will now be checked by the rating officer.

I'll stay with my theory, but I expect we shall know soon enough.

I noticed the DOB in Chessbase also a bit suspect; very impressive Danny drew with Smyslov. probably not when he was 7.

Michael >I trust, Stewart, you were never foolish enough to play poker with him?<
Assuming by him, you mean Danny Wright:
I think I first played poker with him when he was a junor. Many members of Islington Club played. That was mainly before I turned professional.
Pronouns are very difficult in English.

Ah no. I was referring to Brian Eley! He used to practice his card sharp techniques in front of a mirror.

Michael. I don't remember playing poker with Brian Eley. I did play bridge with him and, strangely enough, chess.
Just because somebody cheated at poker, it doesn't mean they were a winner.

Today on the Travel Channel 'Mysteries at the Museum ' an ex wrestler called Maurice Tillet
had passed away but he continued to play chess though an unplugged chess computer.
The computer was examined by 'experts' and a demonstration was set up to prove
it was not a hoax....but still the move kept coming... (add in Twilight Zone theme.)
Maurice died in 1954 but had to wait till the late 1970's when the chess challenger
shown in the TV clip appeared so he could continue playing chess.

In a repeat of "Landscape Artist of the Year" (2015), someone was trying to draw Tower Bridge, roughly, without all the detail owing to time constraints. Frank Skinner said, "It's bit like speed chess", and then something like, "you don't have time to think too deeply, you just have to make a quick judgment".
Someone may have posted this in 2015 but I can't be bothered to look!

From Pep Guardiola: The Man City manager described as football's Che Guevara (BBC Sport):
Googling Guardiola and Kasparov throws up a (to me) surprising number of references to this. Apparently: "Whilst on his year long break from football, after leaving Barca, Pep spent time in New York and became friendly with former chess champion Garry Kasparov." (from here)Guillem Balague wrote:Guardiola is a sponge, keen to learn from anyone from England rugby union coach Eddie Jones to chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov. Perhaps on some level he is making up for his lack of structured education.

Re: Media comments on chess
I am currently preparing for my game ths afternoon in the European Senior Chess team Championship in Poland. We are playing Switzerlnd and I am playing Samuel Sidler 1833.
My preparation had to come to a grinding halt in order to share with you the following video clip.

It is not the same Samuel Sidler!
