Re: Media comments on chess
Could I ask out of interest if Leila Nathoo, who appears regularly as a political correspondent on the BBC News, was British Under 10 Girls Champion in 1995?

Neil,
You could ask her on linkedin. I believe the probability is high.

I came across, on line, this note in 'The Atlantic' today. Posting it tells you nothing of my own views.
Trump and his apparatchiks will not only step up their propaganda; they will increase their efforts to exhaust our critical thinking and to annihilate truth, in the words of the Russian dissident Garry Kasparov. We will see even more “alternative facts.” We will see even more brazen attempts to rewrite history. We will hear even more crazy conspiracy theories. We will witness even more lashing out at reporters, more rage, and more lies.

I have no reason to be on linkedin myself and decided after several requests from people I vaguely know over the years to be a contact that there was no point in joining. So if anyone else is interested in this please feel free to follow up.Stewart Reuben wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 5:03 pmNeil,

Last night ( Tuesday 5th May ). There was a TV programme on ITV at 8pm until 8.30pm called The Village. The second episode of a weekly series.
It is a programme about behind the scenes workers at Portmeirion, North West Wales where the 1960s series The Prisoner was filmed.
Last nights' episode featured fans of The Prisoner arrive in Portmeirion for the annual convention. Part of it was an reenactment of the Human Chess Game from The Prisoner.

Thanks for that - the episode in question (of The Prisoner) was somewhat irritating as the chess didn't make sense, but after a while, I began wondering if that were deliberate as much of the rest of the programme didn't make sense! But it was brilliant...

One of Edward Winter's feature articles is on The Prisoner and chess.

Thanks. I missed. I saw last week. Many family holidays on a farm directly opposite. One year with my parents.
I watched The Prisoner 20 times before making sense. Some snippets of chess in other episodes.... be seeing you.

Cat Stevens "Father and son" video on Now 70s channel has a chess board with the almost inevitable black square on h1.

You'd think he'd know
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I found the song in February when my Father was passing away from Cancer.
A great song Lawrence and I will play it on 10th when it will be 3 months.
Stay safe all.

Daniel Ricciardo
It’s kind of like chess a lot of the time. I wish it was black and white and everyone had the same and we could go and see who was the best, but that is not how it works. But I do feel that the best will always find a way to make it to the top.

Obituary in The Daily Telegraph Friday.
LIEUTENANT-GENERAL SIR ANTHONY PIGOTT
He was manifestly cerebral, his mental chess skills meaning that he was often several moves ahead of others in a discussion...
I have asked John Pigott whether they are related. Of course, this obituary may belong in the obituaries section.
