Your low opinion of it is interesting, the modern POTA films seem to be well regarded by many.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:49 amI hope he's better in it than he is in last night's film

It's the only one of the new ones I've seen. It really was excruciatingly bad - badly acted, badly scripted, absolutely devoid of anything engaging or memorable or original in any way.

I really don't think it was *that* bad, but each to their own as ever.

If Roddy McDowall isn't in it, I'm not watching it.

Must disagree totally
Both Queens Gambit and Queen of Katwe are very interesting films with a chess theme
I have no idea why you choose to be so negative in all your posts

EJH was referring to the first "modern" Planet Of The Apes film, he made no comment on either of those that you mention.

Matt Mckenzie >EJH was referring to the first "modern" Planet Of The Apes film, he made no comment on either of those that you mention.<
It is a common error not to cross-reference what you are referring to and can, with the best will in the world, cause confusion.

For clarity, I would watch any chess themed movie with Roddy McDowall in it. Or any ape themed movie with Roddy mcDowall in it. Or any movie at all in which apes play chess.

Jonathan Rowson on Chess and Happiness in the New York Times
(It may be pay-walled. If so, I'll post the text on request)
Sorry. I've just noticed the article is from 2019

This is about as close I can get to Planet of the Apes and Chess.
Thought the first film was very good. Not too keen on any of the follow ups.

Re: Media comments on chess
By "the first film" in this instance do you mean the late 1960s original?

I'm sure he does mean the film released on 12 April 1968. 53 years ago, exactly to the day. I thought some of the recent Planet of the Apes films were excellent so disagree with Geoff there but totally agree that the original was ground breaking at the time and one of the best sci-fi films ever made. These chess pieces are 50 euros each.Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 3:25 pmBy "the first film" in this instance do you mean the late 1960s original?
