Does anyone else remember an episode from a few years ago which featured Chess Monthly in the guest publication round.
I don't think it was Malcolm's Chess Monthly, rather it was the ECF's Chess Moves newsletter.

Lawrence posted this in November 2015. Said it was 'Chess Moves.'

"Bobby Fischer Live"

I watched it last night.

Oddly, there are occasional good bits, but I'm amazed that the "goofs" listed on IMDB are in a short list.

We have the usual board the wrong way round, Fischer having white in Game 3 in the 1972 Spassky match (and playing 1.Nf3), a simul in the 50s with plastic pieces on the thin flexible boards used a lot in tournaments, (with a-h and 1-8 down the sides), clock settings wrong in Spassky match (I think the type of clock actually changed during one game), but the table used actually looked reasonably accurate.

The guy playing Boris Spassky portrayed him speaking much worse English than the real Spassky
The guy playing Henry Kissinger portrayed him speaking much better English than the real Kissinger.

Dr Zukhar (called Zerkov here) was there, practising before the Karpov - Korchnoi match. (That bit can't be true? You lose track.)

But the credits are pure gold, Lombardy is written as "Lombardie", and yet...

A character called Jennifer Acon is played by Caro Kann.

Genius.

Hi Kevin,

Did you spot the it was the same location for the Brooklyn house and the house in Iceland.

I never got as far as the credits. I switched off just as the 1992 match was starting.

"Did you spot the it was the same location for the Brooklyn house and the house in Iceland."

My concentration was going by then! I had to re-look at the credits this morning to ensure I hadn't imagined Caro Kann.

Is this any good, do we think?

(0ne of two shows I found on Netflix with chess-themed posters.)

No mention of chess, but a familiar face and name in this report.

Justin
I have not yet managed to purchase a copy of 'The Coldest Game' film. But I have purchased a copy of the original book. It hasn't arrived yet.

Roger Demis Hassabis being a member of an important government committee puts it up in my estimation. He will be very objective.

The article is more pessimistic than that, Stewart. It is unclear what influence (if any) Demis has, or what role he has, though he is described as a 'full participant'. Hopefully his AI (medical data mining and analysis?) angle on things will help. I'll post more in another thread.

Its relevance escapes me. It's a vitally important organisation during a grave crisis, not a brainstorming exercise.
