"Guardiola is like a chess player trying to work out what move to make to break the Everton defence" according to Martin Keown on BT Sport 1.
It appears that he found the key in the endgame..

is about someone setting up a "bot" to annoy scam callers. (Good.) For some reason a chess set appears a couple of times.

The ECF has a link to the film Glory to the Queen which is about Georgian women's chess.

Viewing the film requires a password that is given in the ECF link to it.

Today's "i" has an advert in the Money section, page ix, for Templeton Emerging Markets Investment Trust (TEMIT), showing a small child staring at the board after playing 1.d4. A robotic hand is apparently about to reply. The advert mentions AI, so that's presumably the connection. The board is set up correctly.

Elsewhere in the "i" is a photograph of someone called Dua Lipa, (apparently a popular singer) wearing a skirt that looks like a chessboard.

She is of Albanian extraction, and caused a stir last year by approvingly tweeting maps of "Greater Albania".

We're working our way through The Crown and just watched episode five of season two, "Marionettes", in which at one point Lord Altrincham, speaking of a functionary (specifically Martin Charteris) he has been asked to go and see at the Palace, says something like "more than a pawn - but not quite a bishop or knight".

Strength does not matter. It's all about this. It is a strategic game, like chess. It's all about getting two, three, four moves ahead.

The Poke is a satirical news website. This is an old report from October last year with a Top-Ten list of Daily Mail readers comments. No 1 is very good, but I've posted here to note especially No 9 from a reader in America.

The sad thing is that I feel compelled to say that many of those comments must be tongue in cheek. I suspect number 9 is.

School almost 'eliminates bullying' with break-time ban on games
A school claims to have almost eliminated bullying by banning games like football at break times.

Instead, students at Hackney New School participate in supervised quizzes, poetry recitals and other activities, including chess and choir clubs.
