The Stratford run has all but sold out, but it's likely that this six-hour game of human chess will transfer.

Another from the BBC website here - about St. Petersburg on the eve of WWI, with a lot of attention on the 1914 chess tournament. An interesting read, though it seems a bit odd to describe Lasker's chess as elegant and poetic - I thought no-one understood it at the time?

In case you haven't, do see the film 'Chess Fever' directed by Pudovkin and set around the tournament. Capa had a cameo, although it is said he didn't know he was in a film. Of course silent, but still the funniest film about chess. About 20 sublime minutes.

Or listen (worthwhile if only to hear the pronunciation of Alekhine).

Last night's nil-nil draw, according to Diego Simeone:

"It was a game of chess."

how not to resolve a chess dispute:

do not brutally kill your opponent by stabbing him several times and bludgeoning his head and do not cut him open while still alive and eat his heart.

this falls outside of the rules of chess.

I found a link to the film with English subtitles and Capablanca appears in the first 20 seconds.

Seems that 'Chess Fever' is a 1925 Soviet silent comedy film directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin and Nikolai Shipkovsky about the Moscow 1925 chess tournament, made by Pudovkin during the pause in the filming of Mechanics of the Brain. The film combines acted parts with the actual footage from the tournament. As Stewart says the film is 20 minutes long.
