That seems plausible. Is that the one where he gets cross when K9 beats him? I think the only unseen story was "Shada"(?) which was made during a technicians' strike and then never broadcast as the unions objected.

K9 advises the Doctor against a move and the Doctor insists that he saw Capablanca play it against Alekhine, and win.

K9: Correction Master: he lost

I might possibly do something when I've finished the Chess Heroes books, but it would be very different. One reason it was very much something I did with Mike: it wouldn't be the same without him. Societal attitudes to both truth and humour are both very different from 30 years ago as well.

Understandable - I only met MIke a couple of times, and we corresponded a bit, but he was great. The second bit is very true...

Interesting link. I once played a league game with those board and pieces.. A pawn was missing we used a 10p piece.
A Rook was missing, we used a match box. You have not played chess till you have castled with a match box. (I won!)

Museum still refuse to acknowledge my idea that perhaps the carved Bishop was meant to be a Rook
and the berserkers (wardens) were carved as Bishops. When they were first shown:
'it was it looks like a Bishop...therefore it must be a Bishop.' If indeed it was a chess set.

(I've been saying for the past 45+ years saying they are not chess pieces and there is doubt,
backed up with evidence they were at the time suspected of not being found on Lewis. )
Also the timing of the find is very fortuitous. Within months of the finish of the then much publicised Edinburgh - London match.)

Recently the 'experts 'appeared at the Edinburgh Museum and saying there is evidence that pieces where used for
another game.......'as well as chess.' They are now displayed in the Edinburgh Museum on a Viking board game.
Like the Piltdown Man it is hard to get these guys to admit they be wrong, but that will do for me.

Yes if it's genuine and Sotheby's and no mugs at valuation then yes it could go for silly money.

They will need proof it was part of the original haul but even then it is still valuable.
