re the "Queens Gambit netflix series"

best chess series ever made IMO.
I thought so too a couple of weeks ago and then a thought suddenly struck me as to what I was comparing it with. Is this in fact the only fictional chess TV series ever made?
I am aware of a few film adaptations of chess novels, but I think you may be right and this is the first ever such TV series?

No, I don't have the book.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

The list includes the much fuller material in the book. I can send you that list, but I will require your email address. It is too bulky for a carrier pigeon to convey it. You could buy 'Chess in the Movies' by Bob Basalla online.

A piece by Dominic Lawson

It's mostly about the infighting at 10 Downing Street, but the Netflix series gets a mention along with Judit Polgar. Also name checked are Fischer, Kasparov and even the ECF.

Well, it might be churlish to opine that "the top" is perhaps slightly generously defined there :)

I watched it aswell, made me chuckle a bit when the players were discussing the correct answer.
When the third in the sequence appeared as Anatoly. One of the players in the first team that guessed thought it was something to do with our Prime Minister.
The other team answered correctly and the team captain even said he had the same birthday as Gary Kasparov.

BBC Red Button text service, News Index,Science section

"Launching the search for the Gretas of the future "

"Wanted: creative, innovative young minds who want to tackle the big problems facing the planet.
Whether a science genius, a chess prodigy or an advocate for a global cause, you must have the desire to serve others, and be aged 15 to 17.
A new global talent search for exceptional young leaders, inspired by teenage movers and shakers, such as Greta Thunberg has been launched.
It is backed by the philanthropists Wendy and Eric Schmidt."

At first glance I thought they might be referencing this.
"The chess-board is the world ..... the player on the other side is hidden from us ..... he never overlooks a mistake, or makes the smallest allowance for ignorance."
(He doesn't let you resign and start again, either.)

Article in Telegraph today
"Chess isn’t a game, it’s a war – meet one of the women on the front line
Dorsa Derakhshani is a far more serious player than the fictitious Beth, but she notes similarities with the show, not least the sexism"
