I've made it my NY resolution to learn chess. I've always wanted to and have collected several boards over the years and am determined to do it.

I'm interested in correspondence chess and doing it the old fashioned way by post. There are so many sites and clubs. Would be keen to hear which are the preferred organisations to play through. Cheers.

If you want to learn to play there are as many ways to learn as there are chess players I suspect:

and then get yourself to a club.

If you want to play correspondence chess (or blitz chess), I recommend chess.com which also has lots of material to help the improving chess player (and I feel is a bit better than redhotpawn.com).

I should have said, I think postal chess is dying if not dead already. There probably is still a hard core of players who play that way. But the ease of on-line chess has overtaken it

I also recommend you download some software like: http://www.playwitharena.com/ to help analyse your games

Also, both Chess.com and Gameknot.com have daily problems designed to sharpen your tactical awareness

Would you like to play some county correspondence chess? I could probably put you in touch with your local captain for if you wanted to go 'old school' and play by mail - it does still happen in the county games.
