Due to the success of my last event: the 24 hour chess marathon. It has been decided that me and my colleagues will go for the world record.

The current record stands at 40 hours and 20 minutes.

Any suggestions for staying awake for more than 2 days will help and any ideas for sponsorship would be helpful.

Do it as part of the 100th British Championships is my advice for sponsorship / donations.

You may not want to know this, but in The Joys of Chess (2011, Christian Hesse, New in Chess) there is the following on page 404: "In 1983 two bus drivers from Bristol, England, played chess non-stop for 200 hours. Roger Long and Graham Croft contested 189 games, and Long won by 96-93."

No further details or sources, but it should be possible to track details down and find out why this claim doesn't seem to be the current record. Maybe it wasn't verified?

Thats entirely possible. I got the pack from Guinness world records this morning. The amount of verification needed is a nightmare. I may have to start a volunteer recruitment program aswell.

I dont think I can do it during the british championship Sean. The players are the same from the 24 hour chess marathon. Myself, Fraser and our tech support Glenn.

One thing I would like to ask Sean, would e2e4 be interested in broadcasting and advertising the event alongside us?

There will be a World chess record created at the British Championships. It won't require people to become sleep-deprived.
