Tournament listings on the Fide website

Hi all!

Does anyone know why the tournament listings on the Fide website never provide a link to the website of the club/tournament/organisers? It seems to me that this would help promote the tournaments, allowing potential participants to find out when the rounds are being played, accommodation info, tournament conditions etc.

When tournament organisers send their info to Fide, could this info not be included? Or are there technical reasons this isn't possible?

Another possible improvement would be being able to specify any combination of the following in a search (I do realise that this would cost a fortune to implement, and probably not bring in enough extra business, but still, it's nice to dream)

- Time period (from date X to date Y)
- Location (within x kms of location Y)
- N° of rounds (max-min)
- N° of days (max-min)
- Time control

For someone like me living in France and within decent driving distance of Switzerland, Germany and Italy, I have to look at the separate lists for each country and each month, look up on Google Maps where certain towns are ( dové Salsomaggiore Terme?) etc. Not the end of the world, but time consuming all the same.

Does anyone know who I could contact at Fide about adding links to the organisers' websites, or does everything have to go through the national federation (I'd imagine it does)?

A url is provided to FIDE as part of the tournament registration. I don't know why it's not then included on the page displayed online.

That's a very interesting url. I don't think it's complete though, the British Championship Congress isn't there for example.

According to the FIDE Handbook all tournaments with title norms:
"The tournament must be registered at least 30 days in advance on the FIDE server, and all details of the tournament must be published in the FIDE calendar."

It's simple enough to add a tournament, once you have a log in and password.

I'm not sure what you're looking at. The list I use (http://www.fide.com/calendar/tournaments.html) has links to the tournament website for nearly all tournaments.

I would recommend that you use the calendar to look for events to play in and the link you are using to check if the tournament has been rated or registered for rating.
