Hello,
Because I admire the lad, I thought it was about time he had his own thread.
His official FIDE rating is 2868.
His unofficial live rating is 2871.8
It seems to me that 'unofficially' he is breaking the record again.
Or perhaps Ilyumzhinov thinks live ratings is the work of aliens.
Magnus Carlsen

Re: Magnus Carlsen
His FIDE rating has been higher/that high (2872) in the past (Feb, Mar, Apr 2013):

Not sure what the live rating peak is/was.
Some have said (and I agree) that an obsession with ratings is not good for the game, but it is fun to speculate when someone else will next reach 2800 (Radjabov looked to be doing that until his rating went into free-fall), and when/if Carlsen will reach 2900. One thing is for sure, if the match with Anand is close (and on Anand's current form it looks like it will be), that will impact the rating, though obviously the match result is all that matters for either player.
The attention Carlsen gets from the mainstream press is astonishing, though obviously good for the game.

I've long wondered about the connection between IQ and chess playing ability - how come my PC is more intelligent than I am?
Why is it that, Magnus Carlsen possibly the greatest chess player who ever lived, has less power than Rogoff?

If you are being pedantic, then unquestionably your PC is not cleverer than you.
