We were not actually preparing for the Marple match

Stephen had to play at least 2 games as he was included in our registration list, this was one of the matches he was actually available for and agreed earlier in the season

Sophie was a bonus as she was playing for us in the 4NCL the weekend before and was staying in Oldham before travelling to Gibraltar the following weekend, she actually asked to play that night herself (so it was a bonus)

The team would have been alot stronger if John Bentley & Adam Lang didn't stepped aside to allow the younger players to play

I haven't read the whole thread, so somebody else may have suggested this.
The list of league division winners should appear on the ECF site and in the YearBook every year.

"They haven't. And they should. Good idea."

They used to. Browsing through my BCF Yearbook 1974/75 edited by Mrs A. Hopton.

At a glance I can see that the Redditch Bishops whose clubrooms then were:
The Conservative Club, Easemore Road, Redditch (every Tuesday),
Won the Worcestershire League 2 pts ahead of the Kidderminster Bishops.

There is now a quest for this forum.

See if we can get the score of the 'Most Enterprising Games' as played by Dr Brian G Dudley, (Stourbridge).

He is listed, along with a host of others as a vice president of the Worcestershire Chess Association.

http://www.raycollett.net/worcs/about.htm

I'll check out the Edinburgh Club to see if it appeared in CHESS or BCM.
Sometimes these two, especially the former, printed enterprising games from League Chess.

Hi Geoff,

I played in the Worcestershire League as a junior a few years later - in fact my first ever graded game was for Kidderminster Pawns vs D. Newton (Alcester) 16th Nov 1976.

I knew Dr Brian Dudley well since I also played for Stourbridge and I know he is still going strong at the club :) . I'm not sure if any Forum members go to Stourbridge but I know recently Nick Arkell (brother of Keith) has just started playing again with his children at the club.

Regards, John

Hi John,

This is great news, ask if he has a copy of the game and PM it to me.

I'll need all the details and any relevant background. A pic of the lad would great as well.

I'll note it up on my RHP column that will get it at the very least 1,000 views
within a week, good chance it will end up with 2,000+ hits, it usually does.

The best appears to the The RHP Jewel of Doom which ended up with 3,000+ hits.

http://www.redhotpawn.com/blog/blogread ... postid=130

So if the lad is reluctant thinking nobody is interested or will play over it
then tell him by the time I have finished it with it will knock that Byrne - Fischer
game off No1 spot for Game of the Century!

(I just hope it's not enterprising play in the ending....Nah...no such thing.)

Enterprising game winners usually have a score book full of unseen gems.
So no harm in asking if he has any other beauties gathering dust.

Brewood certainly provide accounts of their matches because I do it. That said I'm not certain that the Wolverhampton Chess League Division 3 is top level chess action.

Talking of the Wolverhampton Chess League how was the tiebreak system worked out? I probably should have asked at the AGM which I did go to. The suggestion was that we have a playoff for teams tied on points, although I don't really want to go into too much details about a league AGM.

I have wondered if it was feasible that teams winning leagues could take part in a regional (or national) league (or knockout cup) in a similar way that the champions league does for teams in football. Not that I'm saying we should have an anthem and all that! But for example if the Wolverhampton Division 1 winners St. Georges play the Birmingham Division 1 winners Shirley & Wythall (I am aware that plenty of clubs have teams in both leagues.)
