Re: 2013 British Chess Championships (Torquay)
I can indeed confirm it was 22-15 to GM Keith Arkell, although it was 14-14 at one point.
Needless to say, they then managed 37 games in 1 hour - there were a couple of clocks that couldn't keep up (or their batteries ran out!) so there were 2 invalid games.

But doesn't seem to be up yet. The live games seem to be half or a quarter there.

The number 9 there, Brian Tahron , he knows how the pieces move well. I played him at e2e4. Talented kid. So impressive result by Nick.

I noticed that too, are we sure it's not an error with the sensors?Nick Burrows wrote:Yang-Fan opened his account with 1. h3!

It was 1 h4 for a while, I think we can safely assume there's a problem with that board unless Mike Surtees played the first move before realising he was on the wrong boardNick Burrows wrote:Yang-Fan opened his account with 1. h3!

If so, Surtees has certainly now found the right boardLawrenceCooper wrote:It was 1 h4 for a while, I think we can safely assume there's a problem with that board unless Mike Surtees played the first move before realising he was on the wrong boardNick Burrows wrote:Yang-Fan opened his account with 1. h3!

Surtees has hit Arkell with the mainline Surtees!

There appears to be an illegal move on that game. Nxe4Nick Burrows wrote:Erm yes, and has now been corrected to 1. c4 e6 2. h4!Steven Gardner wrote:I noticed that too, are we sure it's not an error with the sensors?Nick Burrows wrote:Yang-Fan opened his account with 1. h3!

Some spectacular play on that board, black has just declined white's king sacrifice and played a queen sacrifice of his own!Nick Burrows wrote:Erm yes, and has now been corrected to 1. c4 e6 2. h4!Steven Gardner wrote:I noticed that too, are we sure it's not an error with the sensors?Nick Burrows wrote:Yang-Fan opened his account with 1. h3!
