I would die happy if I beat Wood Green in the Eastman Cup final - Richmond LL captain.

Jacks game is getting quite interesting, looks like he is finding ways to open up the position. I wonder how things will unfold when they get near the time control.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Hmm. I might be wrong, but I’d guess Jack rather overlooked the opening up of the a2-g8 diagonal which is presently latent in the position…

Doesn't blacks position just collapse after e4?

I'm sure White's better, but I don't think it's that clear. e4 will involve a certain amount of risk and that h3-pawn is annoying and will take a couple of moves to eliminate. These opposite-coloured bishop positions are always difficult.

As to elitism, to my mind the very idea of a championship is the trouble. Surely, in the sacred name of anti-elitism, it can’t be right to declare a champion at all? And as for the idea that the ‘winner’ deserves more prize money than those who don’t happen to win quite so many games, this must be deeply offensive to any lover of equality, surely? I don’t think the likes of Nick Burrows are going nearly far enough.
Exactly, why can't we all just get along? A hug John? :)

Was just about to write that 31...h5 might be worth a punt, and Jack has played it.

I wonder why Black hasn't just allowed 24 Nf6+ in Simon Williams' game? I suppose he can always give the queen for the g3 rook.

Incidentally, what does the panel think of Tony Kosten's compensation? Adequate at best, it's beginning to look to me.
