Looks to me like White has both the exchange and the compensation.

Think Pete W's doing at least fine, though. John Emms on the other hand is experiencing some pretty stout resistance. Maybe we should let these 2100s into the British after all.

Let's not give too much ground! Emms is playing a good junior who could be admitted on exceptional grounds.

Clearly they don't resign in Mr Graham's village. Still, chapeau to Jean-Luc Weller, whoever he is. Black must have a good chance to hold in Gormally-Brown, as well.

Agreed, though I'm not sure that in his place I'd have devoted five of my last eight minutes (and counting) to his decision at move 25. Still, perhaps the clocks are wrong, and anyway Pete has his own approach to these matters.

Blimey, how much longer is Mackle going to go on a piece down for nothing?

And what is Yang-Fan doing?? What's he going to play after Qf6 - Rxf3+ is all very well, but then Kh2? Perhaps he has a plan.

Oh yeah, yeah, ...Rxh3+, of course. That's why he's playing and I'm sitting here not working.

Before Martin Carpenter jumps down your throat, he's a very talented junior from York.

He's beaten more than one GM and we annotated his win over James Plaskett on Yorkshire chess:

Weller v Plaskett

Good Lord - since when have Yorkshiremen been called Jean-Luc?! Still, good for him.

Brown is also a much under-rated youngster.
