Daniel Fernandez has joined the group on 4/5 by beating Danny Gormally.

I have a feeling we may be some time before Round 6 can be drawn as Oskar Hackner is trying to win a queen and knight ending with his opponent's king stranded in the middle of the board.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh. That was embarrassing. Even after the zillion wins I missed on moves 41-50, I still had a simple win with 55. Qf7+ and not even I could screw it up from there.

:(

You can always blame the effects of the heroic effort from the previous day :)

Some interesting games in prospect on the top boards for round 6:

http://www.englishchess.org.uk/BCC/2013 ... rings.html

Nearly all IMs and GMs all the way down to board 10, with the exceptions being Mackle, Weaving and Osbourne:

1 Howell, David (4.5) - Wells, Peter (4.5)
2 Hebden, Mark (4.5) - Gordon, Stephen (4.5)
3 Williams, Simon K (4) - Hawkins, Jonathan (4)
4 Mackle, Dominic (4) - Lalic, Bogdan (4)
5 Arkell, Keith C (3.5) - Fernandez, Daniel Howard (4)

Not sure if board 4 is a opportunity for Mackle or Lalic? Wonder if the top two boards will be decisive or not?

Does anyone know why there are two absentees from the round 6 draw?
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

One of them was my opponent today. As he had a travelling bag with him, he was presumably leaving Torquay for the weekend.

The two absentees played in round 2 when Reid (John) beat Howell (Chris).

One of them has a family commitment which was considered important enough to allow a bye. The other saved us from having to find a filler, so it was mutually advantageous.

Yes, thanks. I can see it all now. I was probably a bit too eager to get on and view my son's game.
