Jonathan Hawkins is doing something very clever (I suppose)

20...Bf5 21. Bxf5 Nd5?!?!? in Lalic - Jaunooby.

Is that the idea? Brilliant defence if it's working...

edit: 21. Nxd6 played. Really confused by this game, how can they both play the last few moves so quickly in such a position?

I thought the idea was just 21...gxf5 22 Nxd6 Ng6. Doesn't yours lose to 22 Bxg6+ Kxg6 23 cxd5 Qxf6 24 Qxf6+ Kxf6 25 Nc7? Maybe that's not over, though.

I was just asking why 21 Nxd6 didn't wipe Black out, then I thought 21...Bxd3 22 Nxf7 g5 defended. I understand nothing. Presumably some kind person with a computer could put both of us out our misery instantly, though?

I was just going to play 21...gxf5 22 Rd1 or something similarly quiet. That 22. Bxg6+ line leads to Black being better in the rook endgame, I think!

Agree with your next post, confused also! Don't have an engine to hand on this machine, (un)fortunately.

Yes, you're probably right; I hadn't noticed Bogdan was a pawn down before all this started.

Meanwhile, is it me or is Keith going down in a heap?

As is Simon Knott, presumably. I haven't been counting exactly, but I estimate that this about the hundredth time that I've seen him completely lost in this line by move 20. Surely there must be some other way of defending against the Tarrasch?

Are some of the live boards not working? I have jack Rudd's game at move 7 which is obviously not correct.

All corrected and the game ended in a win to Jack.

Janouby has blundered with 27...Kg7 and now he's lost. 27...Bd7 28 Qxd7 Rf4 is a draw. Shame thought he was almost winning there.

David Howell is pressing now, 24. Bb4 c5 25. Ba5(e1) Rxf3 followed by Ne5 looks like a nice endgame for Black with no risk.

Bogdan finally seems to be winning now, but did Black have 27. Qc7 Bd7! with the idea 28. Qxd7 Rf4! ? (edit: Chris beat me to it!)

Well, unless I'm mistaken Wor Rog's opponent has just blundered a piece, so the ECF massif should have a good day.

Keith don't resign to no punter unless he has to, I see.

Edit: Ah, finally!

Don Mason looks like he's in the worst time trouble
