He needs one more GM after round 7 (where he is playing his second GM), which shouldn't be too difficult (providing he wins or draws). The requirement for federations of his opponents (2 non-ENG, maximum 5 ENG, maximum 6 from one federation) look to be easily met. Achieving a 2600 TPR might be more difficult. Current TPR is 2540.

Let's say he wins today, he will still need 1.5/2 against 2458 average (1/2 would need a 2633 average which isn't achievable)

If he draws today he will need 2/2 against 2458 (1.5/2 isn't achievable as above)

Achievable but anything but a win today is necessary I believe

UPDATE : Just realised that the 400 point rule will have impacted my calc, still using the old 350 rule, so Alex is correct

It is not necessary to say that "titled players cannot"... take byes", as it is implied. If you are not an untitled player you must therefore be a titled player. There are only two options available. tut tut tut

'Untitled players in the LCC could take up to 3 half point byes.'
The rules were silent on what titled players could do in this respect and there is no hint as to what they might be allowed. The rule was poorly worded. Had I entered and cared, I would have asked for clarification. It may have been intended that I, a CM, could not take a half point bye at all. It might not. If the latter, why not state 'A titled player may not take a half point bye.'

Well, looking at the results so far, Sarker (not Sakar) from the USA won in round 8 and presumably if he wins tomorrow in round 9 will get a GM norm. Hawkins drew, so cannot now get a GM norm. Kipper (from Germany, not sure why I thought he might be ENG) is the one who drew with Hawkins. Ravi Haria lost, sadly. Sowray still playing - if he wins he will be in the joint lead going into the final round! There are four tying for the lead on 6/8, with potentially two more to join them. EDIT: I see Sowray lost, sadly. But Gormally might be able to win to join the lead.
