Re: Hastings13-14
I have just looked at the Gormally game and that is indeed a tragedy. I feel very sorry for him, though at the same time am hoping that he will not feel the urge to write at length about the experience in CHESS.

Incidentally, whilst I remember, can I say thank you very much for the excellent live coverage this year.

Damn it, I had just ordered a T-shirt "Radovanovic - Hastings Champion 2014"

It looks like Rowe's opponent was better but blundered with 19... Kh8, allowing 20 e6 to open the a1-h8 diagonal.John Moore wrote:Nice win by the Jamaican player Duane Rowe.

(But of course, we do thank Carl for his efforts. Hopefully he doesn't have to pay to host the games, as he does with this site!)

But your heroes are Dave and Matthew as my mother could setup a server and watch from a distance.
Cheers

Really can't understand why Khenkin had a quick draw today.

Re: Hastings13-14
It does seem an odd decision, since on paper he had much the easiest draw of all the players on 6/8, and he had white.benedgell wrote:Really can't understand why Khenkin had a quick draw today.
Of course, there may be a good reason we're not aware of, like his not being well.
The sad thing was that the other players on 6/8 seemed to take their cue from the Khenkin-Radovanovic result, and we got very, very cagey games. I was hoping pre-round that that the probabilty of Khenkin winning would mean the others going all-out too, but it was not to be. Of all seven games involving players on 6/8 or 5.5/8, the indefatigable Mark Hebden was the only person to fashion a win, thereby earning himself a share of the 1st place tie. Great recovery by him after that loss to Sarkar.

In Germany Khenkin has a reputation of having quick draws in tournaments even against lower rated players.benedgell wrote:Really can't understand why Khenkin had a quick draw today.

Re: Hastings13-14
My memories very fuzzy on this, but was Khenkin the guy who took a quick draw for Germany (against Russia, I think?) when they needed to win 4-0 in the last round of one of the team events?

Pretty obvious to me that Radonovic did his homework...seen that this Kenkin guy accepted several quick draws and offered a draw on move 11. Radonovic to be admired.
