Your quickest wins and losses
My quickest loss was 13 moves to a checkmate I didn't see!
My quickest win was 18 moves.
So what are your quickest wins and losses (ECF graded games only, and default wins don't count.)

I once won in 7 moves in the South Wales international:
and in 7 moves in the Cambridge College League:
I forget who my victims were.

Quickest loss - 8 moves, to a Budapest gambit trap.
I can't remember my quickest win for sure, but it has an upper bound of 18 moves.

Re: Your quickest wins and losses
Games involving stronger players or strong player v weak player can be very short. But that will be because someone loses material early on and resigns rather than suffer in a lost position while the winning method is demonstrated. At lower levels of accomplishment, players will continue despite early setbacks and in some cases win or draw.David Blower wrote: So what are your quickest wins and losses (ECF graded games only, and default wins don't count.)
My record with White is a win in 9 moves, several in fact, but resignation rather than mate. Apart from opponents falling into known traps or just giving material away, the best of them was this original effort.
Black can move the Knight from e4, but then Nd6+ wins the Queen.
I've also won in 9 moves with Black in a c3 Sicilian. Nothing special, just the Black move order making a normal move into a game loser.
I actually won in 7 once with Black , but it's a trap almost everyone should know but in a slightly different context.

Hmm, never though about that before. A quick sort on my games DB gives
Quickest loss, 12 moves I blame that nearby pub...
Quickest win, 16 moves. The delights of my first visit to Gibraltar

A gruesome 10 move effort with me as Black. Plus, queens were exchanged at move 7!

Re: Your quickest wins and losses
On the 16th January I was checkmated in 13 moves (I managed not to see it coming either) in the Surrey League.
On the 18th January I gave checkmate in 12 moves in the last round at Golders Green.
I've lost at least two games quicker than that checkmate one. In 12 moves at Penarth 2012 (should have been 9 really) and 7 moves, iirc, when I blundered a piece against the club hotshot in my first year playing serious chess.
I won a game in eight moves in the London League several years ago - and was treated to the most graceless resignation I've ever experienced. I say, 'resignation', but he didn't actually do that. In fact the guy didn't stop the clocks or utter the words "I resign". He just got up and walked away. I think technically I won that game on time.

This one from a long time ago, which actually ends in checkmate:
And this one with a typical loss of a piece:
I think the opponents deserve anonymity in these games!

Re: Your quickest wins and losses
As an adult, I don't think I've had many games finishing before move 20. An example from last year:
Looking at my junior games I've found various wins in around 10 moves (quickest being 7), plus a loss in 11 - mostly along the lines of:
I think this is the shortest game I think I've seen between 2 strong (~2000-rated) players:

I've won that last one, but only on the internet!

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Re: Your quickest wins and losses
I think I am the forum record holder for fast checkmates - I used to routinely win with this trap when I was younger:
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Re: Your quickest wins and losses
Shortest win:
And shortest defeat:
I could have resigned that one at move 5, but I felt that I had to kick the queen around for a few moves, just to see if I could find something to work with.

I won twice last year in 8 moves with the Budapest gambit smothered mate trap. ( not against Rob Thompson ! )

Re: Your quickest wins and losses
Barry, it was indeed that trap, though in my defence I was a good 60 points weaker then than now.
