A warm-up tournament (or two?) is very good preparation for the main event
Wish I was a good enough player to justify the outlay and participate myself.
Perhaps I will one day in the near future.
Also, thanks for the link, above, to the Senior Ch.
I will be following the action as much as poss.

NB: My brother told me that an American IM once tried to raise 25,000 dollars by public appeal in order to come to Europe for a month to play in a series of events culminating in the World Senior Ch. He never made it, bu :P t you are on your way - to the Euros - and the best of British luck to you, sir!
It was very good of you to offer to help Keith towards the cost of the trip.
I wonder if it could be done for juniors on here towards cost of playing for England? or would members on here only want to help Adults?

I just come across this film of Russian Troops Moving across Crimea

I think the point was that juniors got help all the time and adults never get a look in.

Morning Friends.

I am not so sure all juniors get help all the time by the ECF.I know Peter never did we funded his chess out of our own pocket which in the long run is best as you do not have to toady to any one.I have heard of some juniors being given financial help but i have no idea who and how much people used to gossip so who knows it may not be true.
Do you know of juniors who have been given help by the ECF? I guess it also depends on what you mean by help?

Adults in my view should be helped by the ECF why can the ECF not give something towards the trip for Keith?

Tonight its duck looking forward to it :D

I know the parents pay a lot as well, frequently over the odds.

I think the issue is that the perception is that Seniors get no support of any kind whatsoever.

Hi Peter,
If you ruled the ECF would there be free zimmer frames for seniors.
Would you blow the budget on a giant Beano feast for all the members?

When I was a child, I spake as a child, and I still spake as one now.
I am now a senior and so I will support senior chess and myself.
When I was a child I would have liked to support many things but could not afford them or myself.

Right now I can afford a MacFilet-o-fish and I'm off to get one before they run out.

And,

No free zimmer frames I would only spend money on chess development for all ages. We should start a thread where i am put forward as the new President of the ECF  do i have your vote?

Time for cup of tea

Peter, you have my permission to stand, and Graham Borrowdale's, by the sound of it.
We have no votes so you must ask the great and good on the ECF Council for theirs. Good luck!
It will soon be time for a macchiato at Neros or a cortado at Costa - decisions, decisions...

The ECF had no reason to budget for 50+ chess in this finncial year. FIDE announced that 50+ for seniors would start from 1 July 2014. The European Chess Union jumped the gun very late in the day and introduced the European Senior Championships 50+ and 65+ in March and the European Senior Team Championship in April.
I will be asking the ECF for support for the financial year 2014-2015.

Can you do that?

Seriously, it has always seemed odd to me that new regulations for events which take place once in each calendar year come in on July 1st.

There are a large number of leagues that last several months. Most of these take place in the European winter.
Thus changing regulations 1 January could wreak havoc. Thus is why I chose 1 July for regulations changes many years ago.

The ECU decided to introduce the European Senior Championships before 1 July 2014. Thus they jumped the gun. They announced this very late in the day, about November, having already announced the ESTCC would be to the old rules. Thus indeed: The European Chess Union jumped the gun very late in the day. I fear they have shot themselves in the foot.

Of course I agree that 1st July is in general a sensible choice. I just wonder whether regulations specifically for calendar year events should be on a different timetable.
