Probably tiring a bit after his magnificent achievements earlier. Not sure we ever have had a European chess champion before?

Andrew Whiteley, John Nunn and Shaun Taulbut were all European junior champions; Jovanka Houska was European girls champion.

A lot of impressive junior players on that list of winners Peter including Karpov and Aronian! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_J ... ampionship

While I was searching I stumbled upon the tournament claiming to be the first European Individual Championship and got a bit of a shock.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_I ... ampionship

Oh dear. You have all forgotten the major European Championship we won:
The European Team Championship in 1997.
We have had several European and World Gold Medallists for their board in team competitions.
We also have several European and World Gold Medallists both individual and team in solving competitions.
European Union Championship Nigel Short 2006.

The complete list of international honours can be found in the YearBook and, presumably, somewhere on the ECF website.

I was thinking only of individual European events, but yes of course you are right.

And the biggest omission of all - Tony Miles, World Junior Champion in 1974

Soz folks, that was abominable today. Truly awful. Can't explain it. I've never claimed to be that great at rapidplay, but I don't think I played a single good move all day.

I promise I will do far better in the blitz...

On the other hand, hardly a single bad move played in the main event. :D

Keith

You won the big one, be greedy to win the lot

Hope you win the blitz

Really enjoyed Porto when Andrea and I were there 10 years ago, hope you are getting to see some of it -they should be celebrating knocking Napoli out tonight

Cheers
Mick

I didn't notice the soccer result Mick, but I did, a few moments ago, pick up on a good vibe in the air, so now know why!

Very poignant about you and Andrea being here. So many memories of the 3 of us having a good laugh together.

Really wan to try and go out in a bit of style tomorrow...

O, and yes I must admit to having seen a bit of Porto, having met up with my good friend, GM Luis Galego, who is a local resident :)

Is the Blitz shown live ? I don't think it is.

It doesn't start until 2.30 local time, but the site suggests it will be shown.

Well, it's already started with Igor Glek top seed ahead of Sturua, Keith & Kalegin...

It's Tatiana (Bogumil) v. Keith on 3rd bd...

English debut and no easy game for Keith - these Eastern ladies are full of promising chess...

Keith's getting there - round the back - but he is weak on black sqs. around his king...

He's won it!
