Highest Olympiad performance ratings by British Grandmasters

Hi all

I assume the highest achieved TPR in Olympiads by British Grandmasters was that achieved in 1984 by Dr John Nunn:

2868 seems enormously impressive!

It looks that way, Adams had a 2841 performance when winning gold medal at the 2011 European Team http://www.olimpbase.org/2011e/2011in.html#medals which is all the more impressive given that the team didn't have a coach that year.

What did surprise me is that a search for Matthew Sadler only brings up 1996-98. Did he really only play three times for England or is the search faulty? His best performance was 2745 in 1996 with an amazing score of 10.5/13.

The top 6 in 1994 had been Short, Adams, Speelman, Nunn, Miles, Hodgson. Matthew had to wait until he was their equal or better, or they dropped out. I think he retired in 1999 with his final "professional" appearance being for Maidstone/ Invicta Knights in Iceland, featuring a win against Morozevich.

There wasn't a European Team Championship between 1992 and 1997. Or there might have been, but it had been awarded to Yugoslavia, so was in a war zone.

The winning 1997 team had been Short, Adams, Speelman, Sadler, Hodgson.

The same line up, but with Sadler on 3 and Nunn as second reserve finished fourth in the World Team also in 1997.

Prior to 2014, Matthew Sadler only played for the England team during those years.

However, there were four events during the period:

1. Olympiad 1996
2. European Team Championship 1997
3. World Team Championship 1997
4. Olympiad 1998

Coincidentally, those four events were the ones that took place during my time as BCF International Director.

I thinkl its great that Matthew Sadler is back playing for us. I've always found his games interesting to play through.
