Gibralter and getting games graded for ECF

Post by David Gostelow » Wed Jan 21, 2015 2:45 pm

I am sure I read before that you have to write in advance to notify the grader that you want results included. Can anybody refer me - preferably a link to any procedures I need to follow
Thanks

This is mentioned (near the bottom) in the ECF Grading FAQ:

http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/help.php#eligible

"Results are graded as reported by the organisers; they are not accepted from individual players. There is one exception to this: results can be accepted from individual Direct Members in otherwise ungraded events which are played outside England. See Grading games played abroad."

With a link to this:

http://www.englishchess.org.uk/grading/ ... ed-abroad/

However, Gibraltar may count as within England for the purposes of grading. That is why Ivanchuk (among others) has an ECF grade:

http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/player ... 84609D#top
http://www.ecfgrading.org.uk/new/games. ... peed=S#top

Also, if you look at the games submitted for grading in the 2013-14 period:

http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/events1314.htm

You will see "Tradewise Gibraltar Festival: all events" listed there. This year's entry form for the Tradewise Gibraltar Festival will probably confirm that the event is again being graded as part of the ECF grading system.

http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.com/r ... s_2015.htm

"Rating: All five tournaments shall be FIDE rated and ECF graded. Players who are, or who request to be, registered as English (ENG) with FIDE must be ECF Gold members."

Christopher is correct. For this purpose, the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival counts as an English event, not a foreign one.

Neither Gibraltar, nor the Isle of Man are FIDE federations. Thus, in order to get the games in their congresses FIDE Rated, they come under the umbrella of the ECF. ECF Grading follows on logically from that.

So, on a more serious note, no chance for any of us low-graded types to do a "reverse Cavendish" (the IoM cyclist who cycles for GB and is about 3rd on the all time list of Tour de France stage winners) and play in the Olympiads by emigrating to the Isle of Man?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

You could emigrate to Guernsey or Jersey instead though. If they're a bit too good for you, there's always the British Virgin Islands or the Solomon Islands (the bottom two teams of those who turned up for the last Olympiad).
