The newly appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport is John Whittingdale MP (Maldon, 60.6%).

Is anything known about his attitudes towards chess, chess in schools etc?

Is there a chess club for Maldon that could perhaps invite his honorary membership?

All I've heard is that he is not very well disposed towards the BBC and wants to revamp/defang the licence fee?!

He has visited Radley College, which does have some chess activity that can be seen if 'chess' is put in the search box in the link below -
