Flear- Kalaiyalahan is a fun position. 18 moves in, almost everything for black is on the back rank.

Could someone in authority view the messages at chess24 regarding the lack of commentary, and understand the frustration of the potential audience. Obviously everyone involved will be frustrated too, but it really is a poor advertisement for the ECF.

David Howell up to his old tricks: 14 minutes late today. In the Irish Championships we have one or two players who regularly do this and I think it's an insult to opponents...................

Personally I don't think they should activate the live boards until 15 mins after the start time. In theory a player could sit in his room and see his opponents first move. Then he could look up his opponents past games with that move before going down to the playing hall. I'm NOT making any suggestions at all about David Howell who is, after all an incredible player and not someone who would need to cheat like this, I'm just saying that it is a loophole that the organisers should close because it is possible that some people could do this.

Re the live boards:- how about showing some games from the major open?

Why is there no webcam showing the playing hall this year?

Coming late to this, is live coverage just on chess24.com?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

A few of the live boards have lost connection too (e.g. Chris Beckett v Chris Ward, Andrew Lewis v Heather Richards). These things happen, and I am not complaining about problems with a free service, but if anyone on site is able to fix things, it would be good PR for the ECF.

....and Jack Rudd's game seems to have gone offline too, which is a pity, as I wanted to see how Jack was going to follow up 8 e4.

Ditto. Always like seeing Jack's games. Suspect today probably wasn't a good day to watch as a fan of Jack's play, but all the same..

If Andrew Martin would move two feet to his right (i.e. to the left of the camera as we watch), and the webcam was lowered fractionally to enable the eighth rank to be visible, it would make the YouTube commentary a reasonable fix in the circumstances. I appreciate the efforts to bring some live commentary, but the way the broadcast looks right now is pointless, so it would probably be better just to abandon the live commentary. No point in being able to see Andy in close up talking about analysis we can't see, with confusing interjections from Ravi.

In the British 65+ Seniors there are already (according to results showing at 5.30pm) five players tied first on 4.5/6 and two more games in progress where winners could reach that score. This clearly shows that six rounds are insufficient.

There used to be seven rounds in the days before the age group split. I think ECF should reconsider for next year whether to run 65+ and 50+ in succession (how many people really want to play both?) and instead have both of them 7 rounds at least.
