I often wonder what the point is of naming someone until being proved guilty, I really dont like it tbh. Why is it this way in this country?

If he's appearing in court it will be a matter of public record. If the case were conducted in secret I'm sure CJ would be the first to complain.

Pure speculation, but is his defence going to be that he made it all up to improve the sensation value of his book?
Though apparently there's a body - could there be DNA evidence which has survived?

afraid it all over the place, SKY, major online services etc.
Not always connecting with chess, more eggheads-- the degree of the charge of "killing" is not said. Arrested at Heathrow
"
The suspect, 46, was held under his real name Joseph Connagh and will appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court later."

Possibly both the editor and the publisher wanted to sell more copies?

Who would imagine that?

That's a good point John and we're lucky you brought it to our attention.

I expect CK was about to reply in similar vein as yourself but you saved him the trouble.

Obviously he has the right to the presumption of innocence and a fair trial. At the same time it's possibly for the best that he's not the current President or indeed the immediate past President on Council.

It is well worth noting that in his ECF days he was very much the establishment candidate who would have brought reforms and investment to English chess, had he not been hounded out of office by a nest of termitic arbiters.

(edited following advice below)

Not sure that "load" is the correct collective noun.

No doubt Steve Giddins would provide advice.

My understanding is that

Brood, Colony, Nest or Swarm are interchangeable in this regard.

Of course, I am referring to termites.

I prefer 'a dedicated group of thoroughly decent volunteers' who deserve our appreciation for their support of British chess over the years.

Andrew, let that quarrel rest and make your peace. Are you trying to compete with the Lancashire Chess Association?

Was there not a touch of irony in Andrew's post?

For what it's worth, I don't accept that CJ was the establishment candidate when he first stood for ECF President in 2009. That distinction fell to John Paines.

I was wondering that - but I was quite unsure!

Dunno, but if he wishes to rely on the acknowledgement that he is a serial bullshitter I would be happy to appear as an expert witness on his behalf.
