9 round FIDE tournament

Post by Gavin Strachan » Fri Jan 15, 2016 12:54 pm

What sort of interest is there in a new 9 round FIDE tournament with a few smaller events on at the same time in May 17? Good prize money. In Brentwood Essex 20 mins from Central London by train. :?:

One round a day or faster? Over either of the Bank Holiday weekends? The first Bank Holiday would be competing with the 4NCL, which reduces the potential entrants somewhat. If you wanted school age entrants, coinciding with half terms as well would seem desirable.

For a potential wider range of players commuting daily, what are access to the M25 and parking likely to be like? For those staying over, what's the position on hotels?

2 then 1 Sat- Sat though early days so looking at options. Using the half term as that looks better for a lot of people and yes opens the door for juniors. Access/parking is not an issue. it is 5/10 mins walk from a station, and the parking is not bad. Loads of hotels nearby. Premier Inn/Travel Lodge etc. Brentwood is on the M25/A12.

When I did this 10 years ago, it wasn't 9 rounds and was v popular. Am looking at a different venue at moment, but prepping now!

Looking at the other end of May to 4ncl.

The location and format look appealing. All I need now is to be told that the time control won't be G/90.

Tricky one that, given the double round day. You aren't allowed to have variable time rates and offer Norm chances. So what about the double round day? Two five hour plus games or two four hour plus.

I was assuming that the move rate would be either G/90 + 30 with 30 second increments or G/90 with increments.

90+30 +30s. Would be the rate. Sat to sat last week of May bank half term.
Norm opp tournament. Well thanks all. Suppose i better carry on plans. Cant actually book venue until the end of August as it is too far in advance lol. So keep eyes open for full details then.
