Bit busy this afternoon, but keeping the Akshaya-Koby game on a back screen.

edit : already looking a good choice.

Keith Arkell playing a Centre Counter against David Howell. Should be interesting.

No offence to Keith, but I really hope that David will show us how to blow away that annoying 3...Qd6.

Several interesting games to watch today, but Wells v Gormally is presently top of my list

Two quick draws on boards one and three, so a chance for David (or for that matter Keith) to get his nose in front.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Indeed, it is just the sort of provocative opening that used to cause Howell to lose on time, or on account of time shortage. Jon Parker did this against him successfully in the 2006/7 4NCL season and I wonder whether a database search would find other Scandinavian examples too (with some 2...Qxd5 line, but not necessarily 3...Qd6). Should be worth watching Howell's clock today, as well as his position.

At move 14, Howell seems to have good attacking chances, as one would expect - but also with a reasonable amount of time left.

I really dislike h6 just asking for it with g6 and things get really awkward.

A horrid position now after white castles queen side.

I see that Jack lost again, not a good start to the championship for him

Howell now down to three minutes for the next 18 moves, though with increments and Black totally passive, he may see it through.

Well he's scored 1.5/3 against GMs so only today's result could be viewed as a below par one.
